Donating blood after visting costa rica?
Hello, I was wondering if I would be eligible to donate blood after my July visit to Costa Rica for a week. I didn’t go to any jungles or any exotic place, I mostly stayed in Jaco on Pacific Coast. I know when it comes to donating blood that visiting Costa Rica comes with some restrictions, but I was looking on the red cross of San Diego and they said that the only western area was of worry. So basically I’m asking will there be a a general if you’ve visited costa Rica I won’t be able to donate blood? Thanks.
In general you can’t be a donor after visiting any endemic area, which includes most of Central America. Not only because of Malaria, but Dengue as well. The only way you will know for sure is to contact the Red Cross directly.
